Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) VR Lab Policy
Introduction:
The VR Lab at Eastern New Mexico University is a valuable resource for educational and research purposes. To ensure the safe and responsible use of this facility, the following rules and guidelines have been established. All users are expected to comply with these rules to maintain a conducive environment for learning and exploration.
VR Room Pilot/Participant Checklist (Required):
Before Use:
No Food/Drink: Food and drinks are strictly prohibited in the VR Room to prevent damage to equipment.
No Solo Usage: The VR Room should never be used alone. Participants must be always accompanied by a trained Pilot.
Occupancy Limit (4): A maximum of four participants can use the VR room at one time unless special authorization is obtained from the Golden Library Director.
Biohazard Bin: Please locate the 'BIOHAZARD' bin in the corner of the room. This is to be used in the event of motion sickness or nausea. If the biohazard bin is used, the Pilot acknowledges it is their responsibility to notify a library employee IMMEDIATELY.
Equipment Check: Check that all gear is in working order and not damaged before use.
Orientation: The Pilot will orient participants to the VR gear, including any adjustments needed to properly wear the gear.
Safety Precautions: Be aware of the long cords during headset use, as they may become tangled or be an obstacle. It is the responsibility of the individual(s) not using the VR gear to be the 'safety buddy' to ensure the VR participant does not become tangled in or trip over the cords.
Pre-Cleaning: Wipe the VR Headset lenses with the soft black cloth (only this cloth should be used on the lenses) to ensure they are clean. Wipe the remainder of the headset and hand controls with the sanitizing wipes provided. DO NOT WIPE HEADSET LENSES WITH THE SANITIZING WIPES.
Following Use:
Post-Use Equipment Check: Verify all equipment is in working order, and nothing is broken or damaged. Close any open applications on the computer desktop and shut down the computer.
Post-Cleaning: Wipe the VR Headset lenses with the soft black cloth (only this cloth should be used on the lenses) to ensure they are clean. Wipe the remainder of the headset and hand controls with the sanitizing wipes provided. DO NOT WIPE HEADSET LENSES WITH THE SANITIZING WIPES.
Storage: Return VR hand controls/headset to storage on the table and make sure to plug in the Vive Controllers so they may charge. Ensure cords are not tangled, and everything is tidy.
Cleanliness: Wipe the table and computer keyboard with a sanitizing wipe. Ensure any and all trash is thrown away. Ensure a library employee was notified if the biohazard bin was used.
Security: Ensure the door is locked to the VR Room upon exiting the room. If the door is not locked upon exit, please notify the Pilot.
