Black History Month Tabling

Durags and Bonnets Fridays

Dates: February 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd
Time: All day
Location: All around Campus
Description: The idea generated from the want and desire to express self-care and self-love to Black men and women throughout the University. In the '90s and early 2000s, the Durag became a fashion statement of Black pride, worn by rappers like 50 Cent and basketball players like Allen Iverson. Although its trend has worn off, it is now re-emerging as an act of self-love. In that vein of reclamation, various colleges are celebrating Durag and Bonnet Day.

Tribute to Bob Marley

Date: February 6th Time: 7:00 pm- 8:00 pm Location: Buchanan Hall (Music Building) Description: Celebrate and commemorate Reggae Icon, Bob Marley on his birthday. Under the direction of visiting saxophonist and arranger, Superintendent of the Royal St. Lucia (Eastern Caribbean) Police Band, Deland St. Jules, MBE; eleven classic Bob Marley songs will be performed by musicians and vocalists of our Music Department. Ghanaian Heritage Presentation

Delicacies from a Ghanaian Cuisine

Date: February 13th Time: 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Location: Culinary Arts (Food Sciences Building) Description: A live demonstration of how to prepare Ghana Jollof Rice and some side dishes with Benedicta Sackey-Clarke and Chef Agudie, as well as, the help of other International Ghanaian students in ENMU. Leap Year Celebration: Kirk House Band

Date: February 29th Time: 6:00 pm Location: CUB Lobby (Campus Union Building) Description: Come and listen to music from Kirk House Band, as we celebrate Leap Year and Grand Finale of Black History Month. Kirk House, singer, calls himself an Arkansan Texan. He says his heart is one part Arkansas, other part Texas, and as a whole...full of love and soul. Kirk grew up singing in church and attributes the passion in his singing to his late grandfather, Clarence House. He will be performing with Deion Marquise, ENMU Alumnus, Joel Coz, Bass Guitarist, Stephen Sanders, Keys and Background vocal, and Jim Macke, Sound Engineer.
