All Circulation employees are required to complete the training for OCLC WorldShare (WMS). Each link contains step-by-step instruction along with instructional videos. Employees can review each training if needed. The Student Workflows also contains instructions for easy access.

Understanding Library of Congress Call Numbers

The Library of Congress Classification System separates items by their subject subject heading or LCSH. Start with this video on how to read Library of Congress call numbers. Most collections in the ENMU Golden Library use the Library of Congress Classification System with the exceptions being juvenile, YA, K-12 curriculum, gov docs, and archives use .

An outline for the Library of Congress can be found at this link: https://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/lcco/

Customer Service

Customer service and Circulation go hand-in-hand and Circulation student workers practice their customer service skills with every interaction. Customer service skills do not come natural, they must be developed and perfected.

The first step toward great customer service skills is to treat patrons/customers how you would like to be treated. Take a minute to think about a time when you experienced amazing customer services.

  • What did they do that really made you appreciate the service they were providing.

Now think about a time when the service you received was so bad you would never return.

  • What about the service was bad?

Now try and remember, did you tell someone about the amazing service you received? Did you tell someone about the bad service? As a general rule people will remember and relate bad service more than they will good or amazing service. This means that one bad customer service interaction can undo all the work and effort of multiple great customer service interactions.

Use the memory of the good and bad services you received as a starting point to how you interact with patrons.
