Women's History Month

2024 Theme: Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The National Women’s History Month’s theme for 2024 celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme recognizes women throughout the country who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination entirely from our lives and institutions. During 2024, we recognize the example of women who are committed to embracing everyone and excluding no one in our common quest for freedom and opportunity. They know that people change with the help of families, teachers and friends, and that young people in particular need to learn the value of hearing from different voices with different points of view as they grow up.

2023 Theme: Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories

The National Women's History Alliance has announced the women's history theme for 2023 as "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories". They encourage the recognition of all women who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling. The theme honors women in every community who have devoted their talents to producing art that reflects the human condition.

2022 Theme: Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope

The 2022 theme, "Providing Healing, Promoting Hope," is a tribute to the work of caregivers and frontline workers during this ongoing pandemic and throughout history. Women as healers goes back to ancient times. The gift of hope reflects a belief in the unlimited possibilities of this and future generation. Healing and hope are essentials for our dreams and recovery. Communities should honor local women who bring hope and healing, sometimes at great sacrifice.

2021 Theme: Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to Be Silenced

Since most of the 2020 women's suffrage centennial celebration were limited, the National Women's History Alliance is extending the celebration into 2021. The NWHA wants the roles of multicultural suffragists and voting rights activists to continue to be recognized and honored. Their voices cannot be silenced, even by a pandemic. This year's theme shines a light on local women's political involvement, development, and leadership, despite tremendous opposition.

2020 Theme: Valiant Women of the Vote

The 2020 theme celebrates the centennial of the 19th Amendment and the women who have fought for woman's right to vote in the United States. We also honor the 20th and 21st century women who have continued the struggle fighting against poll taxes, literacy tests, voter roll purges, and other forms of voter suppression.
