Women's History Month

In the United States, Women's History Month began in 1911 as International Women's Day. In 1978, the Sonoma, California school district participated in a Women's History Week event surround International Women's Day. Two years later, President Jimmy Carter declared the week of March 8, 1980 as National Women's History Week. In 1987, Congress passed Public Law 100-9 designating the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month. Since 1988, United States presidents have designated the month of March as Women's History Month.
